Betty Ann Ardoin Abshire, 89, entered into Eternal rest Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, in her son and daughter-in-law’s home with her beloved family at her side. Born in Lake Charles, La., to Clarence Louis and Odelia Landry Ardoin, Mrs. Abshire was a 1951 graduate of Sulphur High School in Sulphur where she was an active member of the Civics Club, Drill Squad, F.H.A and Library Club. She was a devout Catholic, housewife, seamstress, administrator assistance, athlete and religious education teacher among many others.
Mrs. Abshire was a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss, where she attended daily Mass, weekly Adoration, prayed the Rosary for others 3 times everyday, served as religious educator, made and provided of baptismal gowns, served on Alter Society and Catholic Daughters and other various committees. She enjoyed her community outreach through quilting clubs at the senior center and bowling leagues. Her children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and loyal customers were frequent recipients of her wonderful quilts, wedding gowns, and many other garments.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Sonia Abshire of Sulphur; son, Kevin Abshire and wife Mindy of Lake Charles; and sister, Ruby Abshire of Sulphur; two grandchildren, Emily Nolan and husband Drew of Ft. Worth, Texas, Army Cpt. Nicholas Abshire and wife Taylor and their son Costa Sol currently stationed in Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elward Abshire; brother, Wilfred Ardoin; and her parents.
Visitation will be at the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 12, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. and will resume on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss with the Rev. Luke Krzanowski officiating. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
