CYPHACON Lake Charles will be hosting their featured Summer Shindig Event “Drink and Draw” this Friday, August 12 at the Pujo Street Cafe.

This event is described as “fun and simple.” This is a social, mixer event in which participants drink and draw at different tables, allowing them to interact with both their friends and new people.

“It’s basically getting like-minded geeks to show up, make new friends, and know that there is more to Lake Charles than just bars downtown,” said Garrett Manuel, CYPHACON Co-Owner and Guest Relations Director.  “It gets more silly as the night goes on.”

Manuel explained that this is a 21-and-up event, and that in the future, many CYPHACON events will also be adult events. The organization likes to remain mindful of their attendees, and grow up with them. “We’ve decided to move in a more adult direction because the people that attended our Summer Shindig events before are now over 21,” he stated.

Events like “Drink and Draw” are important to keep the CYPHACON community alive. Manuel and his colleagues are excited to bring more events to Lake Charles, aside from the CYPHACON convention. “We want to let everyone know that we are planning stuff,” he explained. “We try to bring people downtown outside of the
convention… we want them to go out and have a good time”

Community is “Cyphacon is about community,” “We want to do anything that we can do to bring people together that like geek culture or pop culture together,” “Even if it is just for a night of drinks, listening to music, karaoke, video gaming, we’re up for doing that.”

“Cyphacon is our focal point, once-a-year in April, but we always like to let everybody know ‘Hey! We’re still here, we’re still doing things, don’t forget about us.”

This event, as well as all future community events, will be free. For Manuel, it is important that geeks, pop culture enthusiasts, and all that are interested do not feel burdened by an entry fee.“We take care of our local attendees. That’s really what we are all about.”

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pujo Street Cafe. Attendees are encouraged to order food as well as drinks to support CYPHACON sponsor, Pujo Street Cafe. Drawing materials will be provided.
