A Lake Charles Police sergeant has been arrested for stalking and malfeasance in office.

Chief Deputy Franklin Fondel said Sgt. Harold Nevels was arrested Wednesday afternoon as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Fondel said through statements and evidence obtained, detectives were able to secure an arrest warrant for Nevels.

He is charged with one count of malfeasance in office and one count of stalking.

Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $49,500.

Nevels, who was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, has been released on bond. Under State Civil Service Law, Nevels is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigation.

“We take all criminal complaints seriously and are committed to thorough and complete investigations, no matter who the parties involved may be,” said Police Chief Shawn Caldwell in a statement to the American Press. “Our Investigations Division will continue to investigate this matter and upon its completion, the case will be turned over to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.”
