Sybil Elise Haas, was born on Nov. 8, 1934, and she peacefully passed away on July 8, 2022 in the presence of her loved-ones singing her favorite hymns.
Sybil’s refreshing sense of humor, innate wisdom, warm love, and yearning for God shined brightly even in her final days. And although her speech began to dwindle, she’d whisper “I love you more” repeatedly to her visiting family as she recited scriptures, reminding both her family and God of her unbreakable love.
Throughout most of her life, she enjoyed traveling around the world with her husband, Jerome Charles “Jerry” Haas Jr., who preceded her in death in 2020. Despite their foreign excursions, Sybil never lost connection with her beloved family. She sought to give her many grandchildren unforgettable memories with her Sunday lunches, shopping trips, holiday parties, domino games, and most notably, with her and Jerry’s creekside camp that they shared with family and friends.
In her earlier years, she worked as a deputy clerk for 23 years at the clerk’s office in Lake Charles, La., and she married Jerry on Feb. 4, 1954. Together, they had four children who they are survived by, Jerome Charles “Chuck” Haas III, Robert Paul “Bob” Haas, Katherine Haas McKinney, and Marilyn Haas Thornton. Other family members they are survived by are her siblings, Gwin “Big Shot” Montou, and Carol Reeves; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her family plans to gather privately for a celebration of both Sybil and Jerry’s lives. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
