The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was hit by a pickup truck while walking near the intersection of La. 101 and Gro Racca Road in Lacassine around 1 a.m., according to Louisiana State Police Troop D.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the crash occurred as the pedestrian was working north within the lane of travel on LA 101, according to Trooper First Class Derek Senegal. At the same time, the driver of a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck who was traveling north, struck the pedestrian.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and showed no signs of impairment, Senegal said.

Routine toxicology samples were taken from the driver and pedestrian and submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 8 fatal crashes resulting in 9 deaths in 2022.
