Rosemary Papion

Rosemary Papion, a longtime Lake Charles resident, entered eternal rest on Feb. 28, 2022, in Pensacola, Fla., where she was living with her daughter and son-in-law Veronica and Johnny Ware.
Rosemary, 92, was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Holmwood, La. She is survived to share her memory by Linda Papion, Bobby Papion Sr., Veronica Ware (Johnny) Gervy Papion (Gaynell), Camillus Papion, Christopher Papion (Nancy Gielow), Consul Papion, Rosie Brown (Rusty), 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Papion Sr., loving children, sons, Floyd Papion Jr., Paul Papion, and daughter Margaret Dunn. Rosemary is the Matriarch of her family as she is the last surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Poland, and Mercedes (Collins) Guillory, her siblings Hilda Allen, Joseph Gervey Guillory, Vincent Guillory, Angelo Guillory, Clifton Guillory, Noel Guillory, Cecelia Pappion, Mercedes Darbone, Poland Guillory Jr., Louis Gabriel Guillory, and Tanzy Guillory.
Rosemary and Floyd Sr. were married and raised 11 children through private school: primary, secondary, and higher learning. She loved her children unconditionally. She and Floyd Sr. worked tirelessly to provide a good life for their family. She is loved and will be missed by many. Whether you know her as Momma, Aunt Mary, Cousin Mary, Miss Mary, Nanny, Maw-Maw, Mother-in-Law, she touched us all and kept the family and extended family connected with her frequent “robo” telephone calls and visits.
Rosemary loved cooking for her large family and gardening. The pots were never empty, and she could be seen each day tending to her plants. Her love of Zydeco Music is legendary. She traveled near and far to attend a French Dance. She and Floyd were dedicated founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was involved in various adult and youth ministries. She will be truly missed but not forgotten. Always in our hearts. Rest in God’s Glory, your crown awaits you.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation on March 10, 2022, 5 – 8 p.m. at Combre Funeral Home, 1200 Mill St., Lake Charles, LA 70601. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be March 11, 2022, for 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 2031 Opelousas St., Lake Charles, LA 70601. Officiant Rev Wayne Lebleu. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Combre Funeral Home 1200 Mill Street. A Repast will follow at the Knights of Peter Claver Hall 2526 Opelousas St., Lake Charles, La. Due to Covid concerns, attendees are asked to follow masking and social distancing protocols.
