Woman dies after vehicle strikes her FEMA trailer

A 56-year-old woman has died after a vehicle hit the FEMA trailer she was living in.

At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash on Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. The victim, identified as Penny Thomas, 56, was inside the trailer at the time of the incident. As a result of the impact with the residence, Thomas suffered serious injuries and was transported to a New Orleans hospital where she died later that day due to her injuries.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation by the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office. The driver is not being identified at this time. Toxicology samples from the driver were taken and submitted for analysis. The SJSO is awaiting the results.
