Maxie  Faye Martin

Maxie Faye Hazelton Martin, 86, passed from this life on Jan. 23, 2022, in a local care facility.    

Mrs. Martin was born on Sept. 10, 1935, in Turkey Creek, La., to the union of Jessie James and Rosa Bell Thibodeaux Hazelton. Maxie was born the sixth of her seven siblings, and with the exception of several years in Monroe and Boyce, La., she lived the majority of her life in Turkey Creek, La.

Whether known to you as Mom, Granny, Sister, or Aunt Maxie, her family was the center of her life. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was a long-time member of Friendship Baptist Church in Pine Prairie, La. In her later years, Maxie spent her time gardening, tending her fruit trees, and sitting on her front porch. She was known for her ability to cook, preserve fruits and vegetables, and sew. Maxie loved country music and managed the country and western band “Country Diamonds.”

Mrs. Martin is predeceased by her parents, Jessie James and Rosa Bell Thibodeaux Hazelton; son, Charles Ray Ellis; her brothers, Willie E. Hazelton, Billy Ray Hazelton, Jessie James Hazelton Jr., and Claude Jay Hazelton; sister, Betty Joe Pittman; and her son-in-law, Robert Lee Ardoin.

Maxie leaves to cherish her memory her son, The Rev. Dennis Randall Ellis and wife Khristy of Boyce, La.; daughter, Sharon Faye Ardoin of Ville Platte, La.; granddaughters, Kyleigh Ellis of Greenville, S.C., Karensa Ellis McCarthy, and husband Chris of Hall Summitt, La., and Kimberly Boudreaux and husband Jay of Lafayette, La., one grandson, Kyle Ardoin of Lake Charles, La.;  great-grandson, Keagan McCarthy; brother-in-law, Harold Pittman; sisters-in-law, Betty Gail Hazelton and Linda Gail Hazelton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2022, in the sanctuary of Friendship Baptist Church, 1071 Friendship Loop, Ville Platte, LA 70586. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. with The Rev. Dennis Randall Ellis officiating. The burial will follow in Turkey Creek Cemetery under the direction of Lakeside Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jason Hazelton, Terry Hazelton, Barry Pittman, Matt McCoy, Chris McCarthy, Jay Boudreaux; with Keagan McCarthy serving as honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to express their most profound appreciation to the Heart of Hospice, Prairie Manor Nursing Home staff, and Dr. Charles Jessie Aswell III for their compassionate and loving care shown to Maxie over the last several months.
