Lloyd  Joseph Woods

Lloyd Joseph Woods, 95, of Lake Charles, La., died at 8:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 in a local hospital.

Mr. Woods was born Oct.19, 1926 in Gueydan, La., and attended Gueydan High School. He joined the Navy in 1942 and proudly served on the Air Craft Carrier, USS Enterprise The Big E , CV6. He worked for Olin Corporation for 44 years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, Cajun music and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will always be remembered as a devout Catholic who loved his Church and loved his country.

Mr. Woods is survived by his daughters Lauren Chance and her husband Jimmy, and Melissa Belaire all of Westlake; sons, Kenneth Woods of Lake Charles, and Charles Woods and wife Barbara of Clermont, Fla.; brother Otray Woods Jr.  and wife Bobbie of Lake Charles; and sister, Carole Ann of Ocala, Fla.; grandchildren, Shannon Lavan, Glenn Chance, Megan Belaire, Nicholas Belaire, Austin Woods, Candace Devillier, Kim LeJeune, Matthew Woods, and Christopher Woods; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Bessie; his parents, Otray Woods, Cecile Woods Drost, and step-father, John Drost; siblings, Annette Hagen, Enoch and Gerald Drost; and son-in-law, Kenneth Belaire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  Monsignor Daniel Torres will serve as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at University Baptist Church, located at 4505 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m.
