Delores  Edwards

Delores Geyen Edwards, 80, a native of Lake Charles, La., passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2020 in Tomball, Texas. 

Mrs. Edwards was born on Nov. 13, 1941, to the union of Calvin Geyen and Ida Adams Geyen of Lake Charles, La., where she lived most of her adult life.  She was a 1959 graduate of W.O. Boston High School and a 1963 graduate of McNeese State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education.  Throughout her working years, Mrs. Edwards was employed by the Lake Charles Housing Authority, Vista Chemical Company, and Delta Technical College.

Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong member of the Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully in many capacities at the church she loved.  She taught Sunday School for over 30 years and will be remembered as a gifted Bible teacher. She served as an assistant superintendent and superintendent of the Sunday School, and as a deaconess.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Lewis Edwards Jr. on Dec. 14, 1978.

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Edwards Jr.; parents, Calvin and Ida Geyen; and brother, Calvin Geyen Jr.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Rachel Edwards August; son-in-law, Craig August; granddaughters, Juliet and Justine August; nephew, Myron Geyen; as well as a host of family and friends. 

Viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at 10 to 10:45 a.m., and funeral service at 11 a.m., at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
