Southwest Louisiana can expect a cool and dry forecast throughout the upcoming weekend.

Andrew Tingler of the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office said rain will return on Monday as part of a disturbance that will move into the area.

Tingler said a large upper-level trough is moving across most of the country while a ridge is over the Pacific Coast.

“This will keep cold fronts moving through the region,” he said.

As high pressure continues to move east across the Atlantic coast, another area of high pressure will move from the plains across the local area Friday reinforcing the cool dry weather, Tingler said.

Rain chances will remain elevated into mid-week as a front approaches.

Around half an inch to an inch and a half of rain has already fallen over the past week with a passing cold front, he said.
