Three Point Shot: Recapping week of hoops

In this edition of the Three Point Shot, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux review the week of high school basketball.

Name a boys player of the week.

RA: Westlake senior guard Tylar Joseph had a monster 32-point game Thursday in an 83-44 win over Iota at home. Joseph along with fellow senior Jamaal Guillory are a formidable 1-2 scoring duo as the Rams have racked up a 15-game win streak.

WA: Ja’quise Richmond scored 38 points and grabbed 21 rebounds over two games as Barbe beat Washington-Marion and Sulphur.

Name a girls player of the week.

RA: Merryville sophomore Sam Johnson got on the court one last week but made it a big one with 34 points in a 69-33 win over Class C No. 5 Reeves. The Panthers have won four consecutive games and are ranked No. 3 in Class 3A with a little less than a month left in the regular season.

WA: St. Louis forward Myca Trail scored 58 points over three games to lead the Saints to wins over Jennings, Lake Charles College Prep and Carroll.

Which team had the best week?

RA: Lacassine opened play in District 7-B with a pair of double-digit wins, beating Episcopal of Acadiana by 10 points and Bell City by 20. The Cardinals’ 11 consecutive games and their 22 wins is the most since a 24-win season in 2013-2014.

WA: Fairview girls opened District 5-B play with wins over Pitkin and Anacoco then beat 5A power Lafayette Saturday in Lake Charles. The Panthers have won 18 consecutive games.
