What is the best boys game?

RA: Barbe at Sulphur, Friday. Both teams started the season strong and are ranked in the top 20 in the Class 5A power ratings. The Tors are on an eight-game win streak and sport a strong front court in Kohl Navarre, Dawson Ortego and John David LaFleur. The Bucs have three win streaks of four games or more thanks to the hot shooting of guards Ethan Marque and Jabbari Barry and forward Ja’quise Richmond.

WA: Hamilton Christian vs. Ville Platte, Saturday. Last year Ville Platte edged the Warriors 61-59 at Hamilton’s MLK event. The Warriors will get a shot at revenge in Burton Coliseum. Hamilton has won seven of its last eight games while Ville Platte is 9-5.

Which girls game is most interesting?

RA: Lafayette Christian at Lake Arthur, Friday. Defending Division III state champion LCA will tip off against defending Class 2A champ Lake Arthur. The Tigers had a nine-game win streak going before a loss to Barbe on Tuesday, and will need to find a way to stop one of the best guards in the state in LCA’s Jada Richard, who scored 38 points against Welsh on Tuesday.

WA: Barbe vs. Southwood, Sunday. The Bucs get a test against one of the state’s top 5A programs in the Lady Cowboys, who are 13-6 with quality wins over Huntington, Byrd, Karr, Ouachita Parish and Captain Shreve. The Bucs are 13-4 and on a nine-game winning streak.

Name a player to watch.

RA: Emma Thomson has turned into a force in the lane for Sulphur. The 5-foot-10 junior has recorded multiple double-doubles, including 10 points and 12 rebounds on Tuesday in a 58-48 win over Grand Lake. Thompson will need a big game at home Friday in the Tors’ District 3-5A opener against Barbe.

WA: Jennings center Bri Doucet had a double-double against St. Louis on Tuesday night, showing good patience and touch around the basket. The Bulldogs host Iowa in a district game Friday and face area rival Hathaway on Saturday. The Bulldogs are in the mix for a top-four playoff seed in Class 3A, which would ensure a home game in the quarterfinal
