John “JD” Morgan, age 92, of Lake Charles, La. went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021.

JD was born Dec. 22, 1928 in Hayes, La., to John Littleton and Claudia Janise Morgan. JD never met a stranger, had a giving heart and great sense of humor. Family was everything to him and he always loved doing and caring for others.

At the young age of 14, JD started working for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. He graduated from the old Marion High School, where he proudly stated he graduated fifth in his class with a total of five graduates.  JD went on to work for South Central Bell Telephone Company in 1947. He began working as a lineman and worked his way up to Supervisor at the Greenfield office. He retired in 1987 just 17 days short of 40 years of service.

While on a blind date, he met his soon to be wife, Wanda McGuire. They married Dec. 5, 1949 at Maplewood Methodist Church. Together they enjoyed fellowship with friends and family, traveling and playing dominos.

All his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandchildren. He and his brother Norman loved to cook. JD was always cooking for someone, whether it was family, Methodist Men, McNeese or the Telephone Pioneers. He was a devoted McNeese fan and a lifelong member of the McNeese Cowboy Club. He was also a Telephone Pioneer and a member of Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Wanda Morgan; and brothers, Norman, Gene, and Ray Morgan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Randy Morgan and wife Tammi of Lake Charles, La.; daughter, Becky Hebert and husband Danny of Broussard, La; brother, Duane Morgan; along with five grandchildren, Allyson (Aaron) Montgomery, Brittany (Terry) Blackwell-Schexnider, Dustin (Marissa) Brock, Tristan (Logan) Bath, Randi Paige Morgan; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday at 9 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
