Marianne Taggart Bock

Marianne Taggart Bock, 81, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, in Indianapolis. She was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Houston, Texas to Lloyd Elwin Taggart and Esther (Murrey) Taggart, previously of Lake Charles, La. and Muncie, Ind.

Marianne married William Bock Jr. of New York, N.Y. on Sept. 23, 1961, at Lover’s Lane Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. The couple lived in Washington, D.C., Columbus, Ohio, and Muncie, Ind., where William was a professor in the Physiology and Health Science Department at Ball State University for 49 years until his passing in 2014.

Marianne grew up in Lake Charles, La. and attended her final two years of high school and first year of college at Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va. After high school she graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU). She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at SMU and was an active alumna serving the Delta Sigma Chapter at Ball State University.

In addition to raising four children, Marianne was employed at Grace Lutheran Church, at Ball Corporation and at the Delaware County Community Foundation in Muncie. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and later of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a longtime member of Bible Study Fellowship in New Castle, Ind.

She moved to Indianapolis in 2014 and became a resident of the Robin Run Retirement Community.

Marianne was an active markswoman, winning competitions in her youth. She enjoyed ballet in high school, college and for decades thereafter. She was involved in choral groups her entire life.

She is remembered by her family and friends as a woman of prayer and faith who rejoiced in every circumstance and consistently encouraged others. She was especially treasured as “Grandmeré” and deeply committed to the spiritual and physical wellbeing of each of her 10 grandchildren.

Marianne is survived by son, William (Tracy) Bock, III of Indianapolis; daughter, Chavanne (Michael) Hanson of Sunnyvale, Calif.; daughter, Rebecca (Steven) Stone of Cornelius, N.C.; son, Christian Bock of Mooresville, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Jonté Murrey Taggart of Orange, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at the Chapel at Robin Run Village at 5354 W. 62nd Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268.
