Gloria Baker

Gloria Baker, age 78, of Sulphur, La. passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born on Oct. 29, 1942 in Port Arthur, Texas.

Gloria was a native of Sulphur and married her high school sweetheart. Gloria was a substitute teacher for many years at Vincent Settlement, was a Blue Bird Leader, and was on her High School Class of 1961 Reunion Committee. Gloria was also very proud of her many Certifications of Sewing Machine Repair. She worked for many years at Cypress Sewing Center in Sulphur.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Eva Mae VanSlyke; and nephews, Michael VanSlyke and Jason VanSlyke.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Kent Baker; daughters, Stephanie Nichols, and Yvette Baker and husband Kevin; grandson, Christopher Joseph Meaux and wife Courtney; granddaughter, Leslie Cropley and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason, Cade, Dylan, Cameron, Khloe, Charlee, and Cody; brother, Bo VanSlyke and wife Pam; nephew, Justin VanSlyke and wife Kristen and their two sons; and her fur baby, Sir Bently.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until time of service on Saturday evening at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Celebrant, Jody Barrilleaux will lead services. Graveside service will be private on Sunday. Gloria will be laid to rest in Royer Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
