Visitation services for Larry James Regan, 76, of Sulphur, will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Private funeral and burial services will be held on Thursday. Mr. Regan died in his home Saturday afternoon.
Larry, the fourth of Clyde and Amy Regan’s 11 children, was in the first 8th grade graduating class of Our Lady’s Catholic School. He went on to attend Landry Catholic High, McNeese, and LSU Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctorate.
He served on active duty as a military policeman with the U.S. Army from 1968-1972. His active duty included two tours in Vietnam. His reserve duty spanned from 1973 to 1995, when he retired as a Lt. Colonel. Over the course of his civilian law enforcement career, he served as a police officer with the Columbus, Ga. police department; a criminal investigator, law clerk, and an Assistant Attorney General for the state’s Attorney General’s Office; an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and a Calcasieu Parish Assistant District Attorney. He also worked for a time as an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at McNeese State University.
Larry was a talented gardener, baker, and chef, and throughout his military and civilian career, received numerous accolades and awards. But he truly excelled in his love for his family. His loving and dedicated devotion to his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Diane Regan, during her illness and subsequent liver transplant was a beauty to behold and an inspiration to all who knew him. A few silver linings will be that the remaining family members will no longer have to fight over who gets to hold the babies at gatherings and our waistlines may shrink a little without his incessant cooking of enough to feed an Army.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Diane Regan, daughter Heather Regan White and son-in-law Alastair White of Sulphur, and daughter Rachel Regan Miseles and son-in-law Kelly Miseles of Lake Charles, grandchildren A.J. White, Madelyn White, and Jolie Borel who affectionally referred to him as Poppy; brothers Pat Regan, Danny Regan and Timothy Regan; sisters Barbara Cempura, Kathy Johnson, Margaret Regan, Elaine Eyre and Bridget John and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Amy Regan and his brothers Mike Regan and James Regan. Pallbearers will be Pat Regan, Danny Regan, Timothy Regan, Johnny Guidry, Alastair White and Kelly Miseles.
The family requests that masks be worn by those attending visitation. Larry was a very vocal advocate of safety measures during this time of pandemic and very protective of his immunocompromised wife. The masks would do well to honor him.
The family would like to thank the EMTs with Acadian Ambulance Service and officers with the Sulphur Police Department for the professionalism and respect shown through their tireless efforts to revive him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Larry’s name be made to the Open Door Biker Church (423 West Burton Street, Sulphur, LA 70663) and Our Lady’s Catholic School (1111 Cypress Street, Sulphur, LA 70663).
