Wampus Cats dominant in win over Bolton

ALEXANDRIA — The Leesville Wampus Cats got their Grubb on Friday night.
Daveion Grubb reeled in a pair of touchdown passes, racking up 229 receiving yards in Leesville’s 42-6 district-opening win over the Bolton Bears.
With the victory, Leesville improved to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in district play heading into their 100th meeting with the DeRidder Dragons next week at Wampus Cat Stadium.
Leesville wasted little time in taking Bolton (1-5, 0-1) to the woodshed as Parker Maks found Grubb on a 20-yard TD pass. Caden Catron booted the PAT through the upright for a 7-0 Wampus Cat advantage.
Layne Self scored the next two touchdowns for Leesville as he ran in from 3 and 5 yards as the Wampus Cats built a 21-0 lead before Bolton scored on a 35-yard TD pass from Kennedy Paul to Aaron Obey, cutting the deficit to 21-6 by the intermission.
Leesville scored its remaining three TDs in the third period, beginning with a 5-yard run from Ke’Mhari Pruitt.
Maks later added a 10-yard TD run and a 65-yard TD pass to Grubb for the final margin of victory.
Maks completed 7-of-16 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Grubb reeled in seven receptions for 229 yards and two scores.
Caleb Gallashaw accounted for 132 yards rushing on two carries, while Self had four carries for 14 yards and two scores.
Frank Ford Jr. led the defense with eight solo tackles and 10 assists, while Catron converted on all six of his PAT attempts.
