What is the most interesting game featuring a Class 5A or 4A team?

RA: Sulphur at Southside. The Tors ended a three-game slide with a last-minute win over Lafayette last week, while Southside is trying to bounce back after its two-game win streak ended at the hands of defending state champion Acadiana. The Tors will need to come up with turnovers and take advantage of redzone trips to stay ahead of the Sharks, who hung with Acadiana until the third quarter.

WA: Sam Houston at Barbe. The Broncos have been beset by injuries on offense, but underclassmen Gavin Stout, Drew Bailey and Quinton Simon have stepped up to help plug the holes. Barbe wide receiver Jamaal Levi is on a tear, with at least 154 receiving yards and a touchdown in each game this season. Points could come in bushels. The last two games between the teams have produced 127 total points.

What is the best 3A game?

RA: Lake Charles College Prep at Westlake. The teams have split four blowouts since LCCP joined District 4-3A in 2017, but this one could be first in the series to go down to the wire. LCCP has a Southeastern Conference-bound running back in TreVonte Citizen (713 yds., 11 TDs), while the Rams have a one-two punch in the backfield in quarterback Jamaal Guillory (788 yds., 11 TDs) and Brandon Jupiter (562 yds., 9 TDs). There could be a lot of fireworks.

WA: Jennings vs. St. Louis at Sulphur. Stakes are high for the Bulldogs who went 1-4 in nondistrict play and are adjusting to life without QB Austin Ewing. Trevor Etienne is at QB now, meaning he touches the ball on every play, a scary prospect for the St. Louis defense. The Saints have averaged 285 rushing yards per game in their two-game winning streak.

Name a player to watch.

RA: Leesville linebacker Caden Bealer. The senior made 13 stops last week with three tackles for a loss in the Wampus Cats’ 49-36 win over Minden. He leads the team with 54 tackles.

WA: DeRidder LB/K Jose Mijares. Last week Mijares kicked the winning field goal as time expired to give the Dragons a 9-7 win over Marksville. He starts at LB for the Dragons and has scored a TD on a kickoff return and has a long field goal of 45 yards. The Dragons play at Buckeye tonight.
