Repair work to begin on storm-damaged Central School

Hurricanes Laura and Delta were not kind to Central School Arts & Humanities Center at 809 Kirby St.
“Thirty percent of the roof on the building’s west side was ripped off,” Lake Charles Director of Cultural Affairs Matt Young said Friday.
Ratcliff Construction will be making needed repairs to the interior. Over the past two weeks, the building’s tenants have had their belongings moved into on-site storage pods so repair work can begin, said Young.
Contractors estimate the work can be completed in 180 working days.
Central School was designed and built by noted New Orleans architects Favrot & Livaudais in 1912. The facility operated as a school until 1976, when it began to house School Board Administrative Offices.
