Mary Lena Clifton, 92, of Chapel Hill, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at Carol Woods Retirement Community. Lena was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Kinder, La., to her late parents, Eli and Alma LaFleur. She taught for many years for Calcasieu Parish Schools. Lena was a longtime member of Our Lady of LaSalette in DeQuincy Altar Society.

She is survived by her son, Bill Clifton (Brenda) of DeQuincy; daughter, Lenise Clifton (Chuck) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; half brother, E.J. LaFleur; five grandchildren, Heather Royer, Lance Clifton, Anna Claire Mauney, Mary Kate Mauney, and Ben Mauney; along with five great-grandchildren.

Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Frank Robert Clifton; her brother, Roy LaFleur; and two sisters, Eva Sonnier and Ivy Begnaud.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in DeQuincy on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at 10 a.m. with Father Luis Tigga officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Perkins Cemetery.
