LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley isn’t likely to play again this week when the Tigers host Auburn Saturday night.

But LSU’s struggling and patched-up offensive line should get some healthy bodies back.

Stingley was a late scratch for last week’s 28-25 win over Mississippi State when the Thursday before the game he aggravated the foot injury that kept him out of most of August practice.

He was on the sidelines for the game in Starkville, but wearing a protective boot.

Orgeron had no update at his weekly Monday Zoom meeting other than to say that Stingley will see a doctor this week.

“He has not seen a doctor (yet), so it’s still the same right now,” Orgeron said.

The news was better on the offensive line, where LSU again struggled in pass protection and ran for only 63 yards against the Bulldogs.

Orgeron said starting left tackle Cam Wire, who hasn’t played since going down with an injury in the first half of the season-opener against UCLA, will be back this week.

He began practicing late last week.

The Tigers’ top backup lineman, Charles Turner, will also be back after missing the last two games with an injury.

“That’s going to help us,” Orgeron said. “Our offensive line needs to jell a little more to get us where we want to go.”

Orgeron didn’t know who would play left tackle last week until right up until game time.

True freshman Garrett Dellinger eventually got the start, but several players gave it a go.

Assuming Stingley is unable to play, his spot will be taken by sophomore Dwight McGlothern, who played well in his place last week, Orgeron said.

“The thing that impresses me with Dwight is his instincts and his feet,” Orgeron said.

HONORS: LSU’s linebacker Damone Clark was named the SEC defensive player of the week. He had 15 tackles in LSU’s odd 3-2-6 alignment against Mississippi State and recovered and returned a fumble 35  yards that set up the Tigers’ first touchdown.

TEAM PLAYER: Orgeron noted that wide receiver Kayshown Boutte, by far LSU’s biggest offensive star, isn’t above getting his nose dirty on special teams.

In fact, he had two solo tackles Saturday while playing on coverage teams.
