Troy Phillip DeRouen was born on Aug. 22, 1960 in Lake Charles, La. He was the fourth of five children born to Clyde Ray and Opal DeRouen.

A lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana, he attended and graduated from LaGrange High School Class of 1978. He became a Journeyman Electrician right after high school and then he went on to attend McNeese State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He began his career working in public accounting and also worked in the dry cleaning and international shipping industries. He spent the last 22 years of his career in construction industry management with R.E. Heidt Construction and is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Dunham Price Group.

He met his wife Connie Wren while attending McNeese and was the proud father to two daughters and grandfather to five grandchildren. When his daughters married, he gained two sons whom he loved dearly, and he taught them how to live “the good life”.

His greatest enjoyment was trips to his camp at Toledo Bend, freshwater fishing, duck and deer hunting and passing the time with side splitting laughter, jovial conversation, games of Bourre, good food and music with his family and all who knew him, including his friends, who called him TBoy. He loved to entertain by cooking delicious food and had recently mastered cooking his mom’s famous pralines. Everyone will remember his storytelling and animated jokes which always had everyone in tears of laughter. Troy so deeply loved life and his precious family and friends, and he was comforted by always helping others when they needed it.

He held many titles; husband, father, and friend, but it was the title of “Gramps” he cherished most. He was the rock of his family and thoroughly enjoyed and loved life and people. His motto was “If I die tomorrow, I have lived a good life”.

He was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 by his father and fishing buddy, Clyde Ray DeRouen; maternal grandparents, Robert and Laura (McCleod) Corsey; and paternal grandparents, Claude and Anna Mae (Hebert) DeRouen.

Those left to cherish his memory, his wife of 39  years, Connie Wren DeRouen; two daughters, Christy (Jeremy) Pousson, and Morgan (Jake) Boyette; grandchildren, Anna, Caroline, and Cecilia Rose Pousson, Maddison and Logan Troy Boyette; his mother, Opal Corsey DeRouen; siblings, Sharon (Jerry) McFarlain, Laura (David) Edgar, Jackie (James) Davis and Kathy (Gilbert) Franklin; in-laws, Jon (Myrtle) Wren, and Kathleen (Doug) Beard; nieces and nephews, Erica Edgar Babineaux, Alyson McFarlain Goodfriend, Christopher McFarlain, Kennedy and Reagan Franklin, his godchild, Leslie Davis McMains, Tricia Wren Habetz, Stephen Wren and Brooks Beard, along with numerous cousins and dear friends that have been like family.

Pall bearers are Sammy Bourgeois, Buzz Dranguet, Richard (Richie) Gregory, John Gregory, Scott Havens, Brady Kojis, Jason Truax, and cousin, Will Verdine.

The family will welcome friends on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at University Baptist Church beginning at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to begin at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 at University Baptist Church at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A Funeral Mass led by Monsignor Torres will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home with a private burial at Consolata at a later date.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for their dutiful care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation in his honor be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
