Virgil Louis “Chick” Karcher

Virgil Louis “Chick” Karcher of Lake Charles passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in a local hospital.  He was born on July 23, 1928, in Bowlegs, Oklahoma to Fred and Violet Hedge Karcher.

After graduating from Shawnee High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Korean War.  Upon his discharge, he worked at several jobs in the oil & gas industry before moving to Lake Charles.  He eventually retired from South Central Bell after 35 years of service.  Chick loved meeting new people and never met a stranger. He also enjoyed traveling extensively after his retirement.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Liz Karcher (Danny LaFleur), Mark Karcher (Ginger), Donna Karcher, and Carol Creel (Kevin); four grandchildren, Jamie, Steven, John, and Cydney; and three great grandchildren; his sister, Donna Allen; and his brothers, James Karcher (Paulette), and Fred Karcher (Jill).

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Delsa Karcher; his parents; and his sisters, Oleta Madden, and Judith Karcher.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 20, 2021, at University Baptist Church.  Rev. Lee Whitley will officiate.  Inurnment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
