William “Bill” Hubert Miller, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Lake Charles.

Bill was born on April 21, 1927, in Los Angeles to Hubert Steele and Florence Abigail (Piatt) Miller. A WWII Navy veteran, he graduated from Louisiana State University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he began working for F. Miller & Sons Inc., continuing there until retiring at age 80.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Corley) Miller, and six children, Keith (Tammy) Miller of Compton, AR; Brian (Cindy Tanner) Miller of Philadelphia, TN; Kathryn (Chris) Harp of Lake Charles; Rebecca Stalcup of Little Rock, AR; Laura (Jay) Ecker of Lake Charles; and Daniel Miller of Shreveport. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, the former Leslie Ann Roberts, son Paul, and daughter Cynthia Abrahams. Leslie Ann was the mother of Cynthia, Keith, Brian, and Paul.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he always kept up with LSU football, even from the WWII Pacific Theater, through letters to his mother inquiring after an LSU–Alabama score. He was active in many community service organizations, among them, the Optimist Club and Boys Village.

Bill was a Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles. He served on the state board of examiners for the Louisiana Engineering Society and upon retirement was appointed a commissioner of the Calcasieu Parish Drainage Board.

The family extends special thanks to Bill’s caregiver, Sharnell Williams.

A visitation is set for Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 11am-2pm in the Chapel at Trinity Baptist Church (1800 Country Club Rd, Lake Charles, LA). All are invited to stop by and visit with family. Interment services will  be a private family gathering at Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
