Welsh looked to break the tie early in the third quarter with two touchdowns on their opening possessions. The first was a Legros 11-yard run followed by a Fontenot 12-yard run to take a 28-14 lead with 6:48 to play in the third quarter.

“This was a big win for us tonight as Vinton played really well,” Gueringer said. “We couldn’t stop them at times, and we have to be able to finish drives. We have to be mentally tougher than what we are right now as we made too many mistakes.”
The Lions offense was led by Bunting who finished with 268 passing yards by going 18-for-34, 6 rushing yards, and was a part of all of three touchdown scores. C.J. Jack led the Lions on the ground with 36 yards on 12 carries. Logan Beard finished with 11 receptions for 166 receiving yards. Budwine finished with 56 yards on three receptions.
“We did some good things in spots tonight but shot ourselves in the foot a little bit,” said Vinton head coach Lark Hebert. “We had way too many penalties. Our quarterbacks Lukas Bunting and Logan Beard both had good performances tonight.”
