THREE POINT STANCE: Yellow Jacket battle headlines Week 2 slate

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview Week 2 football games involving area small schools and volleyball.

What is the most interesting Week 2 football game involving an area small school?

WA: Iowa at Kinder, Thursday. Both editions of the Yellow Jackets picked up impressive wins in week one, with Kinder rallying for a one-point win over Welsh, while the Jackets piled up 42 points at Iota. The teams have played three games from 2017-19, with each decided by three points or less.

RA: Vinton at Welsh, Friday. Both teams impressed with their run games in Week 1. Welsh had a pair of 100-yard rushers in running back Cohen Fontenot (24 car., 179, TD) and quarterback Gabe Gillett (8 car., 116 yards, 2 TD). Vinton racked up 375 yards on the ground led by CJ Jack’s 135 and quarterback Lukas Bunting scored twice on the ground.

Name a small school football player to watch.

WA: DeQuincy running back Hudson Snyler has broken off long touchdown runs in both the jamboree vs. LaGrange and in last week’s opener at Westlake, when he ran for a team-high 76 yards while also doubling as a starting linebacker.

RA: Grand Lake quarteback Connor Guillotte threw three touchdown passes in the Hornets’ season opening win over Pickering. He showed poise in the second half with two touchdown passes to pull away after leading just 14-6 at halftime.

Name a volleyball player to watch.

WA: Barbe’s Sarah David had 19 kills and 31 digs over the first three games of the Westlake tournament last week, helping the Bucs earn a second-place finish. Barbe will play at Iowa Thursday.

RA: Junior outside hitter Finli Dennis helped Sulphur win the Westlake tournament on Saturday. She had eight kills against LaGrange and 11 in a close two-game win over the host Rams, plus three in a win over Barbe in the championship game. The Tors have road games this week at Iowa and Westlake.
