Lawrence Hoffpauir, 86, died peacefully in a Lake Charles, Louisiana, care facility on August 27, 2021.  Lawrence “Larry” was born September 25, 1935, in Crowley, Louisiana to Lawrence Paul Hoffpauir, Jr. and Allie Breaux Hoffpauir.  He grew up in Crowley, moving to Lake Charles in 1952.  Larry attended LaGrange High School beginning his sophomore year until his graduation in 1954.  He participated in numerous sports including football, boxing, and track, excelling as the top pole vaulter in his grade.  While at LaGrange, Larry met and made numerous lifelong friends and most importantly, he met the love of his life, Gloria DeRouen.  They dated through high school, became engaged, and married on July 7, 1956, enjoying 65 years of marriage.  Larry and Gloria remained extremely devoted to each other for 70 years.

Larry started his career with S&P Railroad in Houston, Texas.  While working, he attended technical college training to become a television repairman.  He later worked at George’s TV in Lake Charles, and Ike’s Television Repair in Sulphur, Louisiana.  Always driven to better himself, he acquired a position at PPG Industries in the instrumentation department, retiring after 30 years of service.  After retirement, Larry could be found at Burger King every Friday with his PPG buddies, sharing coffee and stories.  In his younger days, he was an avid calf roper, winning several titles in local rodeos.  Larry and Gloria were loyal McNeese State University Cowboy fans, season ticket holders, and rarely missed a football game.  He loved hunting, fishing, and watching sports with his sons.  He taught his daughter everything he knew about gardening, attracting bluebirds, and his family ancestry and history.  As his children and later his grandchildren grew up and traveled, Larry could be found studying his Atlas, mapping out their trips and the progress they were making.  He always talked about his snow skiing trip to the mountains in Colorado as being the most exciting thing he had done in his lifetime.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Gloria DeRouen Hoffpauir; his son, Wendell Hoffpauir (Pamela) of Lake Charles; his daughter, Cynthia Hoffpauir (Karl) of Lake Charles; and his son, Jason Hoffpauir (Christine) of Ragley, Louisiana; also, his grandchildren, Jennifer Manchester, Erica Evans, Ashley Byrley, Adrienne Hebert, Bradley Miller, Lauren Hoffpauir, Ethan Fox, and Emma Fox; his great grandchildren, Isabella McGee, Wyatt Manchester, Lily Reed, Fiona Manchester, Isla Evans, Hugh Evans, Jacques Hebert, and Colette Hebert.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Henry Langley and stepmother Vi Hoffpauir; his brother, Forest “Beau” Hoffpauir; and his son, Steven Hoffpauir.

Due to Covid-19, a private family service will be held in Larry’s honor on September 10, 2021.  Msgr. Daniel Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the NantzFriends Foundation at Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX in their leading research for dementia treatment.
