Arthur DeWitt Ballard

Arthur DeWitt “A.D.” Ballard of Moss Bluff died Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, in his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on Aug. 6, 1940 in Oakdale, La. to Arthur Lee and Mary Place Ballard.

A.D. moved to Lake Charles to start a family and career. He began working at Hercules Plastics in Sulphur, La., where he worked for over 23 years. It was there that he met his wife, Connie Sue Dugas, and they were married in 1980. They started a small business together, which eventually grew into a successful pipeline maintenance and construction company.

He retired in 2003, but in 2008 he decided it was time to get back to work. He started a new job in the pipeline industry doing inspections and consulting, which quickly became his new passion.

His new work took him and Connie to many new places across the country. In 2017 A.D. retired again. He and Connie returned home to enjoy their growing family.

A.D. was a man who lived by his own rules. He always had a joke ready, loved to sing, and made friends everywhere he went.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie Ballard of Moss Bluff; his daughter, Charlotte Sonnier of Moss Bluff; his sons, Justin and wife Jessica of Oakdale, La., Nick and wife Natalie of Toluca Lake, Calif., Daniel and fiance’ Kayla Fields of Toluca Lake, Calif.; his grandchildren, Casey Sonnier, Cody Sonnier, Calyn Ballard, Allison Ballard, Place Ballard, Jada Peters and Logan Ballard; and his great-grandchild, Kynliegh Ballard; his sister, Glenda B. Stewart of Oakdale, La.; and his brothers, Gerald Ballard (Jackie) of Oakdale, La., Tommy Ballard (Nelda) also of Oakdale, La., and Olin Ballard of Lake Charles; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins across the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Coleman Ballard, Curtis Ballard, and Robert Ballard; and his son, Jason Wayne Ballard.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Beaver Creek Cemetery in Oakdale, La. under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Lifelong friend Mike Baham will officiate services. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, and will resume on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
