Gregory Ellis English

Gregory Ellis English, age 70, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away early Saturday morning at a local hospital on August 28, 2021. Gregory was born on June 3, 1951 in Beaumont, Texas. He was also known as “Coach Greg, Mr. E” to all the children he coached and taught.

Greg was a graduate of Sulphur High School in 1969 and McNeese State University. After going into business as the owner of T-Shirt Emporium and Tiger T’s, he went on to teach for nearly two decades in the Calcasieu Parish Public School system spending many years at Vinton Middle, Oak Park Middle and EDS. His passions were coaching softball, art and teaching Louisiana History. Greg spent his recreational time as a Coach and Umpire for Sulphur Parks and Recreation, Sweethearts softball, and Blue Thunder. His major life accomplishments include his teaching website was sited as a resource in Louisiana History Books for middle schools, he is a member of Teachers Pay Teachers where his lesson plans are available to teachers across the country and still be utilized by teachers today, and he was a recipient of KPLC’s “Class Act” Award. Greg was a past member of Immaculate Conception Church and active member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where he was a member of A.C.T.S.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Helen English.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 50 years, Jean Duhon English; his daughter, Denys English Leblanc and husband, Josh; son, James English; grandchildren, Michael Guy and wife, Michelle, Sebastian Guy, and Bayli English and her mother, Kara Foster; sister, Sharyn English Stanley and husband, Pat; brother, Phillip English and wife, Judy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church Hall with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Richard, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
