Hurricane Ida is continuing to intensify and has shifted a bit east. The storm is forecast to become a Category 4 — with winds up to 130 mph — before making landfall just west of Port Fourchon Sunday afternoon.

This means the tropical storm warning has been dropped for Vernon, Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes; the hurricane warning has been replaced by a tropical storm warning for Avoyelles, Evangeline and Acadia parishes.

Jeff Davis continues to be under a hurricane warning.

Donald Jones, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office, said the storm is continuing to move at about 16 mph.

“We’re not looking for this storm to fall out at any point,” he said. “Even when it hits lands, it’s not expected to stay still for too long.”

He said Southwest Louisiana could receive wind gusts of 20-40 mph as the storm approaches, and less than two inches of rain between 2-4 p.m. Sunday.
