J.D. Strickland Sr., a resident of Lake Charles, La., was born March 11, 1940 in Gafney, S.C. and passed away Aug. 20, 2021, at the age of 81. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Green Beret Special Forces starting at the young age of 18.  He was a faithful member for 50 years of Apostolic Temple Pentecostal Church, Lake Charles, La.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne Askew Strickland; children, Ronald “R.W.” Strickland, Johnny Dean  Strickland, Jr. and Wendy Kay Strickland; grandchildren, Alexandra Myers and husband, Shawn, A’driana Strickland, Derek Strickland, Jessen Hanks and wife, Kim, Amberly Ancelet and husband, Tee, Ashlee Summers and husband, Terry, Aimee Moore-Strickland; and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. R. “Smokey” Strickland and Gertrude Williams Strickland; sister, Ann Davis and brothers, Jim Strickland and Earl Strickland.

The family will receive friends 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at Apostolic Temple Pentecostal Church, 2711 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, La.  The funeral service will be held 10  a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, at Apostolic Temple Pentecostal Church with Pastor R. D. Treece officiating.  Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery, Buna, Texas
