Fort Polk and its Joint Readiness Training Center will be getting a newly constructed Information Systems Facility next year, after U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana, announced this week the military bases will receive a combined $73 billion from the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act.

Fort Polk will receive $25 million from the federal funds to build its new facility, which is expected to house the 106 Signal Brigade, according to Fort Polk officials.

It will be located on the northeast corner of Louisiana and Texas Avenue on South Fort Polk.

Fort Polk spokesperson Kim Reischling said the project is under design and is scheduled to award construction bids in fiscal year 2021.

“This project is required to provide the U.S. Army and Fort Polk with an adequate Information Systems Facility needed to support required mission-essential operational interactions affecting 24-hour information technology and information management between Command, installation, tenants, and government agency partners,” Reischling said.

According to an official release from Cassidy, Barksdale Air Force Base will also receive $48 million from the NDAA to construct an entrance road and new gate to allow base access from Interstate 220. The project is part of the base’s ultimate plan to build a nearly $300 million weapons storage facility.

“Louisiana plays a key role in America’s national defense strategy. These projects at Barksdale and Fort Polk strengthen their ability to prepare for and respond to threats. Continued investments pay dividends for our state and our nation,” Cassidy stated in his release.
