St. Louis punter to play at McNeese State

St. Louis punter Michael Mack has committed to play at McNeese State University.

Mack also kicks and plays defensive back at St. Louis but was recruited as a punter. This season Mack has punted 37 times for a 43.3 average with a long of 60 and has had 15 punts downed inside the 20.

“I just wanted to stay home,” Mack said. “I am just going to punt, and maybe do some kickoffs. I think it is going to be better concentrating on one thing. I am looking forward to it.”

He has 30 touchbacks on kickoffs and has made 7 of 10 field goal attempts with a long of 44. Defensively, he has 32 tackles and four interceptions.

 JAGUAR NATION: Westlake’s Jaden Towner will sign a letter of intent to play basketball at Southern University at 2:10 p.m. this afternoon at the school.

Towner averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game for the Rams last season. She is also a standout in volleyball, helping the Rams reach the quarterfinals of the state championship tournament last week.

 CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS: Hackberry won the Class C boys state championship Monday with 63 points, 11 better than runner-up Holy Rosary. Johnson Bayou was third with 85 points and Reeves fourth with 88.

Simpson won the girls Class C title with 42 points. Elizabeth finished third, Hackberry fourth.

In Class B, Anacoco finished second behind ESA in the boys meet, with Austin Millisor finishing second individually with a time of 17:04.1. ESA won the girls team title as well, followed by Pitkin, Anacoco and Lacassine.

St. Martin’s won the boys 1A title with 53 points, followed by Ascension Catholic. The order was reversed in the girl’s meet with Ascenscion Catholic taking the title and St. Martin’s finishing second.

In Class 2A, Episcopal-Baton Rouge cruised to the win with 22 points. Newman was runner-up with 107. St. Thomas Aquinas won the girls title with 52 points, 17 better than runner-up Menard.

The 3A, 4A and 5A meets were postponed to Wednesday due to weather.””
