The South Lake Charles Little League is back in the hunt for a trip to Williamsport, Pa.
The team of 11 and 12-year-old all-stars rallied its way through the loser’s bracket and defeated Lafayette twice to claim the state championship.
SLC capped off its Louisiana State title with a 13-4 win Thursday night, earning a trip to Waco, Texas and the Southwest Regional. South Lake Charles will open the regional with a 5 p.m. next Friday night against the New Mexico state champion at Norcross Stadium.
In SLC’s pool in Waco are the state champs from Mississippi and Arkansas as well. If South Lake Charles wins the Southwest title the team will advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
The title game of the Southwest Regional will be televised by ESPN.
After falling to Lafayette 6-4 in the first meeting, South Lake Charles rallied to advance to the championship round of the double-elimination state tournament before forcing a third and deciding game with Lafayette with a 7-0 win.
