A 38-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with producing, manufacturing and distributing marijuana, possession of Xanax and Soma, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal use of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Fred B. Vidrine Jr., 307 Jarib Lane, was arrested June 18.

“Deputies were dispatched to Vidrine’s home to investigate a complaint regarding a possible marijuana plant growing in a window of the home,” Myers said in a news release. “When deputies arrived, they could clearly see plant and confirmed it was marijuana.

“Deputies also recovered several instruments used to smoke marijuana, syringes, and numerous pills of Xanax and Soma that were not prescribed to Vidrine. A 5-year-old boy inside the home was removed and placed with family members.”

Judge Wilford Carter set Vidrine’s bond at $10,000.

Sr. Cpl. John Coffman and deputy Chris Daigle were the arresting officers.
