WINNSBORO (AP) — A Franklin Parish inmate led deputies on a high speed chase while driving a parish vehicle after he escaped custody.

Sheriff Kevin Cobb tells The News-Star Jimmy McCall, booked into Franklin Parish Detention Center on theft charges, was at the parish courthouse Tuesday for questioning. He ran out of the building and jumped in an unmarked vehicle.

Cobb said McCall led authorities in a chase that exceeded 100 mph.

Cobb said the chase ended when the vehicle McCall took was intentionally wrecked in a field about seven miles away, near Crowville.

McCall was rebooked into the detention center on charges of aggravated flight, aggravated escape, aggravated battery, reckless operation and unauthorized use.

His bond was set at $125,000.
