LAFAYETTE (AP) — An Evangeline Parish inmate serving time for trying to run over a police officer allegedly escaped by hot-wiring a sheriff's office truck while the deputy was paying for gas in Lafayette.
State police, the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force and sheriff's deputies were searching on Tuesday for 28-year-old Kyle Robert Dore, who was convicted and sentenced for aggravated assault against a police officer with a vehicle, Trooper Stephen Hammons said.
He said an Evangeline Parish sheriff's deputy had stopped for gas while driving Dore somewhere early Tuesday.
Hammons didn't know where Dore was being taken. Sheriff's officials were not available for comment.
Dore is white, 5-foot-11, and 175 pounds with black hair and blue eyes. Police say he should be considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Anyone with any information is asked to call 911, the U.S. Marshal's at 337-251-6921 or Louisiana State Police Troop I at 337-262-5880.
