Man uses 5-year-old daughter as shield from knife attack in Kenner

KENNER (AP) — A 5-year-old girl's back was gashed and both of her ankles cut when her father used her as a shield from her mother's knife attack, Kenner police say. The wound in her back needed 22 staples, and her ankles needed a total of 11 stitches — seven on the left and four on the right, according to arrest reports.
Kenisha Caples, 25, and Maurice Sparkman, 44, were arrested Sunday, a day after their fight, The Times-Picayune reported.
Caples was booked with two counts of aggravated battery and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, and Sparkman, whose hands and arms were cut, with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and domestic abuse battery.
Caples threw several knives at Sparkman after he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground, according to arrest reports. The reports said Sparkman ran upstairs, grabbed their daughter and held her between them, thinking that might stop the attack.
Instead, Caples allegedly grabbed a larger knife and began swinging it at them both "with no regard for the safety or welfare of the child," the arrest report said.
It did not say which hospital treated the child.

Title: Such a shame
This is just sad. How could a mother hurt her own child? She knew she was stabbing that baby. And why the hell would a grown man use a child( his own child) as a shield.They both need to be beat and put under the jail. i pray that this child is ok.This little girl is going to have so many questions about why her parents did this to her. I hope she is with someone who really loves her and who will protect and care for her like thay should. what is this world comeing to when a child isn't even safe at home in the arms or their parents?
