Baton Rouge man indicted in 1987 rape case

BATON ROUGE (AP) — A 47-year-old Baton Rouge man has been indicted in the 1987 rape of a woman at the Bellemont Hotel on Airline Highway.
The Advocate reports an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Wednesday charged Charles Jones with aggravated rape of a 32-year-old woman on May 21, 1987.
Jones was arrested in March 2011 after a test done at the State Police Crime Lab matched Jones' DNA to DNA evidence collected during the rape investigation 24 years earlier.
An aggravated rape conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison.
It was not immediately clear whether Jones has an attorney.
