KINDER — The home team was the most successful at the Allen Parish Jamboree on Friday night at John C. Buck Stadium, as Kinder won both of its games, beating Oakdale 13-2 and Oberlin 19-0.
Running back Jordan Vickers led the way for the Yellow Jackets, opening both of Kinders’ second half drives with touchdown runs. Vickers busted through the middle and ran free 24 yards for a touchdown against Oakdale and hit the left sideline then cut back in to score a touchdown on a 52 yard run against Oberlin.
Oberlin was able to win the second game of the night, beating Oakdale 6-0.
In the first game of the night between Kinder and Oakdale, it quite obviously a preseason contest. At halftime, the Warriors had pulled ahead, 2-0 thanks to a snap that went over Kinder punter and wide receiver Khalil Leblanc’s head and out the back of the Yellow Jackets’ end zone for a safety.
In the first half, Kinder amassed negative 23 yards of offense to Oakdale’s 11 yards of offense.
In the second game of the night, Oberlin’s six minute and 28 second opening drive took up nearly all of the seven and a half minute first half, as the Tigers methodically marched down the field, eventually crossing the goal line on what would be a game-winning 26 yard touchdown run by Lance Frank.
Frank bounced off one defender before breaking free to put the Tigers up on Oakdale, 6-0.
In the second half, the teams traded possessions, but never threatened the others’ end zone.
Oakdale was clearly in preseason mode, as it was plagued by penalty after penalty throughout its two games.
“It’s hard to be positive right now,” said Oakdale coach Randall Gordon. “We felt that we made a lot of mistakes. Kinder and Oberlin are good football teams, but we felt that we made a lot of mistakes that hindered us. There were a lot of little penalties that hindered us.”
In the night’s final contest, Kinder got on the board first by pounding line with Vickers numerous times to make it down the field and set up for a one yard touchdown run.
Kinder quarterback Austin Pickle connected with Leblanc with 13 seconds remaining in the first half to push the score to 13-0 and Vickers’ 52-yard run sealed the deal for the Yellow Jackets to finish 2-0 on the evening.
