Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and with it will come the end of the fall season.

Soon the red and orange leaves blanketing the city will be replaced by a cold snap the area has come to learn is the signal of the winter season.

Before that happens, however, residents of Moss Bluff and the surrounding area will have one last chance to enjoy the cool weather of autumn during the Moss Bluff Harvest Festival.

The festival will run today-Saturday, Nov. 15-17, at the Moss Bluff Recreation Complex off Park Road. Tickets are $2.

“The people of Moss Bluff want to stay a tight-knit community, no matter how big we get. Everybody knows everybody here, and this is an opportunity for all of Moss Bluff to get together and meet everyone out here and feel like a family,” said Michelle McInnis, a festival board member.

“It’s a festival that brings the community together with carnival rides, pageants and other activities such as a magic show. It’s really all about community and family fun.”

The festival will be open 5-9 p.m. Thursday. After an opening prayer at the Cameron Communications Main Stage, carnival rides and vendors will open at 5 p.m. and a Queen’s Pageant will be at 7 p.m.

Festivities will run 5-9 p.m. Friday, with the Prince and Princess Pageant for special-needs children at 6:30 p.m.

Carnival rides will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, and magician Bart Glatt will perform at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Other activities will include storytime with the Moss Bluff Library at noon; the Christine Bailey State Farm Gumbo Cook-Off at noon; a pet show at 1 p.m.; and the presentation of the pageant queens at 3 p.m.
