Voters head back to polls Saturday

Voters across the state will head back to the polls on Saturday. Statewide, the ballot includes a proposed constitutional amendment to prohibit new taxes or fees by the state and its political subdivision on the sale or transfer of immovable property after Nov. 30, 2011. Locally, it will be a considerably smaller election than a month ago.

The constitutional amendment is the only item appearing on ballots in Jeff Davis Parish.

Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon have run-off elections for police jurors, sheriff, city marshal and state senators.

There will not be a runoff for Calcasieu Parish tax assessor after Willie Mount conceded to Wendy Aguillard.

DeQuincy voters will decide on a half-cent sales tax for public safety and fire protection.

The Beauregard Parish Police Jury is asking voters to approve a measure to exempt certain disabled veterans from homestead exemption.

There will not be a runoff for the Merryville alderman seat after incumbent Brenda Jeans withdrew from the race two weeks ago. Mance Stark will assume the seat.

Vernon Parish is also seeking a half cent sales tax for improvements and maintenance of streets, water and sewer.

CALCASIEU

Senate District 30: James David Cain, John Smith (I).

Police Jury District 2: Calvin Collins (I), James Mayo.

A 15-year half cent sales tax for operation and maintenance of public safety, fire protection and criminal justice in DeQuincy. It will generate $247,087 a year.

CAMERON

Sheriff: Ron Johnson, Wendell Wilkerson.

Police Jury District 1: Curtis Fountain, Sonny McGee (I).

Police Jury District 4: Terry M. Beard, Thomas McDaniel (I).

Police Jury District 5: Kirk Burleigh, Scott Trahan (I).

Police Jury Distirct 6: Joseph M. Delcambre, Joe B. Dupont.

ALLEN

Oakdale City Marshal: Joseph Lockett, Heath Mason.

Police Jury District 4: James Smith, Huey Creig Vizena.

Police Jury District 7: Kent Fontenot (I), Billy Reeves.

BEAUREGARD

Senate District 30: James David Cain, John Smith (I).

Police Jury District 3C: Johnnie E. Bennett, Rex G. Brumley (I).

VERNON

Senate District 30: James David Cain, John Smith (I).

Police Jury District 12: Kenny Haymon (I), Bruce Stanley.

A 25-year half cent sales tax for improvements and maintenance of streets, water and sewer and for economic development activities in Rosepine. It will generate $41,212 a a year.
