From staff reports

A 59-year-old Rayne man died Saturday as a result of a Saturday one-vehicle accident at the Nelson Road exit of Interstate 210, Lake Charles police said Sunday.

Allen G. Bergeron Jr., who was driving, died at a local hospital, Sgt. Shawn Caldwell said in a news release.

Caldwell said a female passenger, whose name was not released, was listed in serious condition Saturday night.

The crash occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the news release said.

“The vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and crashed into an overhead sign support pole,” Caldwell said.

He said alcohol involvement is not suspected and no citations were issued.

Sgt. S. Kingsley is the investigating officer.
