Westlake city officials are hoping to promote the community and keep its residents better informed with its recently launched website.Jimmy Ashworth, director of finance for the city of Westlake, said the project has been in the works for several years and the site went live in mid-July.
“We had a website previously, however, after looking at all the other area websites — Lake Charles, Sulphur, DeQuincy — we felt like we needed to make ours a little more up-to-date,” he said. “We hired a company, and they helped design the new website and then we maintain it.”
He said the site — www.cityofwestlake.com — “may help promote the city to outsiders because if someone, for instance, is moving to Southwest Louisiana they may look at what cities are here. We felt like we were behind other towns in the area.”
Ashworth said the website is more user-friendly than its predecessor.
“We made it really easy to use, and there is a lot of information on it now,” he said. “We have links to our schools, local businesses, community service events and things going on in the recreation district.”
Ashworth said updates include better graphics, pictures and information on who to contact for services like utilities or permits.
“We really just want to promote our community and all the things going on here, with some of the economical growth that could be coming to the area,” he said.
Ashworth said Westlake businesses can call the city at 433-0691 to be included on the links page.
