Waste Management will deliver trash cans to residents today in accordance with the company’s renewal of services to the town of Vinton.

The company will start leaving trash cans curb side at 7 a.m. and weekly residential collection will begin Jan. 16.

The Town Council unanimously approved in October to enter into a contract with Waste Management for trash pickup when its contract with IESI expired.

The new contract with Waste Management, who served as the town’s trash hauler before Vinton signed with IESI, will save customers $6.50 a month.

Beverly Gilchrist, district manager, said the company is “very excited” about returning to Vinton.

“They were one of our favorite customers and we are so happy to be going back into the town and being a part of it,” she said. “We are going to make a day of it. A lot of our local employees are volunteering and helping to deliver the cans because we wanted to do it personally.”

The Waste Management team will also be at the Vinton Police Department during the day, cooking hotdogs, and Gilchrist said they invite residents to stop by and meet the team.

“People can come out and come by and meet the people that will be collecting their garbage and ask any questions they might have, or they can just come by and say hello,” she said. “We are looking forward to a fun day.”

Councilman Harold Douga said at the October council meeting that the contract would collectively save the town $100,000.

Gilchrist said if residents have any questions about trash pickup they can call Waste Management at 436-7229.
