Last Modified: Saturday, October 06, 2012 8:42 PM

GONZALES (AP) — Louisiana state police say two people died Saturday in a one-vehicle crash in Gonzales on U.S. Highway 61 South.

State police identified the victims as 24-year-old Joshua Davis of Westwego and 40-year-old Lerone Ursin of Convent. A 17-year-old passenger was injured but the injuries were not life threatening.

State police say Gonzales police had stopped Davis' car for a traffic violation but Davis drove away. Authorities say Davis ran off the highway, struck a culvert and became airborne.

Davis and Ursin were pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is continuing.
