Coroner: Jefferson Parish toddler killed by homicidal asphyxiation

MARRERO (AP) — The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office says a 3-year-old boy found dead by his mother inside of their Marrero home Wednesday was killed by "homicidal asphyxiation.
Investigator Elizabeth Klein told The Times-Picayune the boy's body did have some trauma.
Klein did not say how the boy was killed, only that he died because of lack of oxygen.
Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said the cause of death has been ruled strangulation and or suffocation.
Fortunato says the toddler's mother discovered his body lying on the floor, partially covered by a pile of dirty clothes.
The case is still under investigation. No arrests have been made and no motive has been revealed.
