A 29-year-old Sulphur woman has been charged with theft over $500, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Candace M. Johnson, 1207 Ravia Road, Lot 68, was arrested on Nov. 8.

“Deputies were dispatched to a convenience store on Beglis Parkway in Sulphur regarding an employee stealing from the company,” Myers said in a news release. “Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the owner of the business who advised when checking the balance of the deposits made by the employees of the store on Nov. 5, she discovered over $800 cash was missing.”

Myers said when detectives talked with Johnson, a cashier at the store, she confirmed she stole the money.

Johnson was released on a $1,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.

Detective Michael Connor was the lead investigator.
