A 53-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Joseph A. Thompson was arrested Tuesday.
“On June 15, detectives were dispatched Thompson’s home in reference to a complaint regarding the living conditions of the house,” Myers said in a news released on Friday. “Detectives discovered an 8-year-old boy living in the house under extremely foul living conditions.
“The boy appeared to be dirty, as if he had not been bathed in several days and was wearing clothing that did not fit. Detectives discovered a sparse amount of food, a strong odor of stagnant food, and also trash and animal feces spread throughout the home.”
Myers said the child was removed from the home and placed with family members.
Judge Ron Ware set Thompson’s bond at $25,000.
Detective Trey Thomas was the lead investigator on this case.
